Nick Vujicic

We all know that life is beautiful . . . but it is also challenging. There are no exceptions!

No matter how a perfect a person’s life appears to be on the outside, you can be sure that they, too, are facing something difficult.

When I am feeling down and wondering, “why me,”? I try to remember the quote from Plato realizing that life has not singled me out. I need to get on with it! I need to adjust my attitude.
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”

Last week, my post was about the benefits of gratitude, this week it is about the importance of attitude.

While it is very true, that we have much to be grateful for, we also have to prepare for adversity. It will surely come into our lives, in one form or another.

Difficulties come at each of us from all different directions. They try to throw us down and keep us there. However, the good news is that we get to choose our attitude:

1. You can lie down and wallow in your troubles
2. You can summon the strength to get up and move beyond your troubles and to focus on the possibilities.

When I hit a tough patch in my life, I recall the words of Tony de Mello, “Our only suffering is our inability to accept reality. As soon as one can accept reality, the struggle is gone, and one can begin to move on with whatever the reality is.”

Dealing with reality is not easy, however, I find it is a waste of my time and energy to use it being angry, disappointed and feeling that life is not fair. This attitude gets me nowhere but stuck and spiraling farther down.

My personal choice is to struggle to get beyond the difficulty by focusing, not on the problem at hand, but on getting up and thinking about how best I could move forward.

The video below is the story of a young man, Nick Vujicic, whose love if life and positive attitude is truly an inspiration.

When I watched this video, I did not see a man without arms and legs, but rather, an amazing spirit. Nick has chosen to live his life fully grateful for what he has. He does not waste his time on what he lacks. He chooses a positive attitude and the result is happiness for himself and he also shares his experience and joy with others. His message is that no matter how impossible a situation in life may see, “You can get back up.”

His story reminds me of a quote by Kahlil Gibran, “Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens. “

When you read this quote and watch the video, think about your attitude. Is your attitude helping you to see life as beautiful or does your attitude need an adjustment? Never give up, just work on getting back up and search for the possibilities in your life.
