Live in the now

Value the present . . .

“One problem with gazing too frequently into the past is that we may turn around to find the future has run out on us.” ~Michael Cibenko

I know these words are true, but I often forget to pay attention to the wisdom they contain. I am guilty of re-living many moments in the past and anticipating moments in the future, instead of living fully in the present moment. The result is that in any given day, I can mindlessly lose countless moments, never to be regained.

This past week, I did just that. I was upset by an incident that happened early one morning, but Instead of letting it go, I allowed the incident to upset a great part of the rest of my day.
I was stuck in the morning, and only later, did the realization hit me as to how many hours had gone by. The day was almost over. I had wasted a good deal of it wallowing in the past rather than releasing it and moving into the present. I had missed the now!

Yet another thing for me to work on. . . I’ll let you know how it goes.

Do you ever get caught up in the past or future and ignore the present? Perhaps you will find the words of Henry David Thoreau to be a helpful:

“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land, there is no other life but this.”

I have love quotes and have collected them for years. You can imagine my delight when I found this video full of quotes on living in the present moment. I hope some of these quotes resonate with you and are helpful reminders that the true value is in the present.
