Honesty

It is often difficult to be inspired these days. However, I recently learned about a man, John Wooden, who died recently at 99 years old. HIs life was an inspiration to the many people he came in contact with in his career as an English teacher and a very successful basketball coach. He never made much money, but he was extraordinary! He left behind an example of a life well lived and often shared his simple thoughts on success. I am truly inspired by his life and his words!

His lived according to ” two sets of threes” as told to him about how to conduct one’s life by his father who was a farmer on small farm in Central Indiana.

One “set of threes” is about honesty:
1. Never lie.
2. Never cheat.
3. Never steal

The other “set of threes” is about adversity:
1. Don’t whine.
2. Don’t complain.
3. Don’t make excuses.

In addition, Wooden created a new definition of success for his own life. “Success is the peace of mind that comes from knowing each day that you did the very best you were capable of.”
