My best shot…!

by carmenlund on January 18, 2011

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars.”
Anomyous

I love this quote! If only I could shoot for the moon and then be glad to land wherever.

Instead, I often find it is hard to get a project completed and ready to go. Even a small project can seem overwhelming and takes me endless time.

The main reason I become overwhelmed is that I tend towards being a perfectionist. I know in my heart that perfectionism never works. But still, I try to get my work done perfectly. The result is lots of anxiety and delay!

Since perfection is unattainable, I am working on giving each project my best shot, letting go of the outcome, and shooting for the moon!

Who knows if I will reach my target? But, surely I will reach farther than I am now!

What about you . . .?
Do you have a project you need to get done but is not completed?
Do you know what holds you back?
Have you been delayed by perfectionism or any other reason?

What could you do differently in order to be ready to shoot?

If the worst thing that could happen is to land among the stars rather than reaching the moon, could that work for you?

What happens if…?

by carmenlund on November 1, 2010

“The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.”
Dr. Oz

Yikes, I’d like “inner peace,” but this is a tall order. The thought of finishing the number of things I have started but never completed is daunting. I like the idea, but the reality of accomplishing this huge task, paralyzes me!

How to begin . . . I need to make a plan!

What if I saw the piles of leaves on the ground as a metaphor for all the things I have begun in my life but never completed?

How could I possibly begin to “pick up” the large number of “leaves” that surround me?

What if I picked up just one leaf at a time, beginning with the largest?

I got it. . .
“There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the most important thing.”
Brian Tracy

Ok this thought is less daunting and more manageable . . .
I am going to set my priorities.

What is the one “leaf” that I could pick up to begin clearing the “pile”?
When will I begin to pick up the first “leaf”?
When will I complete the task?
What is the next “leaf,” I want to pick up?

What about you? Do you have any “leaves” that have piled up?
How are you going to clear your path?
What is your first “leaf” you want to pick up?
